Job description
HM Coastguard (HMCG) is the operational arm of the MCA and we prevent the loss of life at sea and on the coast in the UK. As Technical Rescue Training and Development Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring we continue to make a difference by facilitating and supporting the technical training and development requirements for Coastal Operations.

Providing effective leadership and management to a team of Coastguard Technical Rescue trainers , you will be accountable for the planning, management and delivery of effective and budgeted training solutions throughout the UK.

We are looking for someone who has experience of either Technical Rescue or training delivery and management and will be able to quickly understand training requirements to develop and grow the technical training function.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

• leadership, management and governance of the HMCG Technical Rescue Training Team - ensuring that appropriate training solutions are researched, designed, delivered and budgeted
• ensuring a culture of safety prevails and that the safety of all staff and delegates remains a priority at all times
• review, update and maintain the Coastguard Technical Competency Framework and use this to deliver a training curriculum and training pathways for operational Coastguard staff
• management of the HMCG Technical Rescue Training budget, relevant contracts and all associated costs including procurement processes where required
• ensure a consistent focus on assessment and achievement, using appropriate data and benchmarks to set, monitor, track and evaluate progress, and challenge and remedy under-performance
• build a collaborative learning culture within the Technical Rescue Training Team and MCA Talent and Capability team and engage with other training establishments and agencies to build effective learning and training communities

As part of the role, there will be a requirement to travel within the UK to liaise with both internal & external partners and to deliver training.

Please note: although we will consider requests to work remotely from any MCA location, with good transportation links, there is an expectation that you will regularly attend the Daedalus Training Facility to fulfil your duties.

About you
As an experienced and qualified Search and Rescue Trainer/ Technical Rescue Trainer you will bring strong leadership skills and an innovative approach to training. You will thrive in a role that gives you the room to develop and grow the training function and have the ability to adapt to meet any possible situation.

You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can build meaningful relationships with external agencies and emergency services to share knowledge and build a culture or continuous learning and improvement.

Full UK driving licence.
