The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) aims to be the best maritime safety organisation in the world. We are looking for experienced and capable Marine Surveyors to help us achieve our vision.

No two days are the same for our Marine Surveyors. You will inspect, audit and survey ships and maritime ship operators to ensure UK and International Regulations are being met, delivering exceptional customer service alongside experienced colleagues.
We have a number or Marine Surveyor positions available in the Engineer, Naval Architect, Nautical and Ship Surveyor disciplines. Please see the Role Profiles attached below for further information about the responsibilities associated with each role.

You are an experienced Maritime Professional who holds the relevant qualifications (as outlined in the Role Profiles attached below). You have proven customer service skills and can make quick, effective decisions, that are always focused on achieving the best outcomes. You are resilient, flexible and able to manage a varied workload with competing priorities. You have excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively build relationships with a variety of stakeholders across different cultures and industries.

Please note, due to the nature of the role you will also be required to undergo a Counter-Terrorist Check (CTC). Gaining CTC Clearance will normally require you to have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years, and only candidates who meet this requirement will be considered for the role.

You will operate to a flexible working pattern consisting of an average of 37 hours per week. On occasion, there will be a requirement to work outside of ‘normal hours’.
You will be required to work and travel on official duty within the UK and short term visits overseas or offshore, which may involve overnight stays away from home.
A full driving licence for driving in the UK and a passport valid for international travel are required.

Things you need to know
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is counter-terrorist check.
People working with government assets must complete basic personnel security standard checks.
Successful candidates will be expected to have a medical.
Selection process details
This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.
We are closely monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus, and will be following central Government advice as it is issued. There is therefore a risk that recruitment to this post may be subject to change at short notice. In addition, where appropriate, you may be invited to attend a video interview.

The first stage is to apply online. Once your application is complete you will receive an email inviting you to complete an online Qualification Questionnaire.
The Qualification Questionnaire asks you questions about your qualifications, experience and residency status and must be completed for your application to be considered. Email invites will be sent out on 19/10/2020, 29/10/2020, and 09/11/2020.

If your application meets the requirements of the role, you will then be invited to a short initial video interview, where we will assess your experience and technical knowledge. Further information will be provided if you are invited to online interview.
If you are successful at the video interview you will then be invited to attend a final interview at MCA HQ, Spring Place, 105 Commercial Road, Southampton, SO15 1EG. This is subject to the COVID-19 situation where an alternative method of interview may be considered nearer the time.
The sift is due to take place on or around w/c 11/11/2020.
The first stage of interviews are likely to be held around w/c 23/11/2020.
Final interviews/assessments are likely to be held around w/c 07/12/2020.
